Minnetonka Public Schools has been recognized as the #2 Best School District, #1 Best Teachers and #3 Best Places to Teach among public schools in Minnesota by Niche.com as part of the publication’s 2026 Best Schools rankings. Minnetonka has also been ranked #49 nationally for Best School Districts in America and #32 for Districts with the Best Teachers in America out of more than 11,278 public school districts nationwide. Individually, all nine schools and Tonka Online have received top rankings in numerous categories.
   
AP Honor Roll Icon

Minnetonka students continue to excel in AP courses at Minnetonka High School and through Tonka Online. Minnetonka’s AP exam pass rate (scores of 3 or higher) is 89.7%. As of August 2026, 1070 students in grades 9-12 had earned one of four AP Scholar designations. 84.6% of the Class of 2026 took an AP or IB course during their high school careers. 

   
US News Logo U.S. News & World Report for 2026-27 ranked Minnetonka High School #3 in Minnesota and #197 nationally. Rankings are based on math and reading tests, graduation rates and the degree to which students are prepared for college-level work.

Minnetonka Public School District was again recognized in 2026 as one of the best in the nation for music education by the NAMM Foundation. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment and access to music education.

The following teams qualified for state tournaments in 2025-26: Adapted Bowling, Boys Alpine Skiing, Girls Alpine Skiing, Girls Badminton, Competitive Cheerleading, Competitive Dance, Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Debate, Boys Football, Girls Golf, Boys Hockey, Boys Lacrosse, Boys Nordic Ski Racing, Girls Nordic Ski Racing, Robotics, Boys Swimming and Diving, Girls Swimming and Diving, Girls Synchronized Swimming, Boys Tennis, Girls Tennis,  Boys Track and Field, Girls Track and Field, and Wrestling.

Parent Survey Highlights

  • 96% of respondents rate the education provided by the Minnetonka School District as excellent or good.
  • 95% of elementary school parents, 93% of middle school parents and 92% of high school parents would recommend their school to friends or neighbors.
  • 91% of elementary parents, 87% of middle school parents and 90% of high school parents say they believe their school principal is accessible to them when they have questions or concerns.
  • 96% of elementary parents, 93% of middle school parents and 93% of high school parents say they believe their child’s school provides a safe learning environment.
  • 90% of parents believe our community receives a good value from its investment in our local public schools.
