Stuart Scales

Stu serves as a Program Supervisor with Minnetonka Community Education, where he works with the recreation team and Explorers. He is passionate about creating welcoming, hands-on experiences where participants can build confidence, try new things and feel like they belong.

Born in Evansville, Indiana, Stu earned a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Arizona State University, with a focus in Conservation & Ecology. After a decade in finance, he made a deliberate move into education and recreation, drawn to work that gets people outside, engaged and connected to each other. Most recently, he worked as an outdoor recreation educator with Three Rivers Park District, where he led programs in archery, disc golf, geocaching, fishing, paddling, camping and more for participants of all ages, from young children to older adults.

Stu believes time outdoors is one of the best ways to help kids grow. It gives them room to be curious, to unplug, to take a healthy risk and to learn from the world around them.

Stu lives in Maple Plain with his wife and two children. Outside of work, he enjoys fishing, reading (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Nature), cooking, BBQing, watching hockey and spending time outdoors with his family.
